Overview

The multicultural component of my GCSP plan focuses on developing the global perspective needed to work on challenges that cross borders, cultures, and communities. The goal is to build cultural understanding that strengthens how I communicate, collaborate, and design technology with real people in mind.

Study Abroad in Mexico

Completed a Summer 2024 study abroad experience in Mexico connected to my integrated minor, with time spent in Oaxaca and Mexico City. The experience included engaging with local communities and learning directly from place based history, language, and culture, including visits with indigenous communities.

Coursework on Latin America provided context that made the experience deeper and more intentional, including HONOR 3601 focused on intellectual traditions in Latin America. This work helped connect cultural understanding to the broader themes of ethics, power, and social systems.

How This Shapes My Work

These experiences shape how I approach security and technology by keeping the human impact visible. They reinforce that real systems are used by people with different needs, risks, and constraints, and that strong solutions require cultural awareness, clear communication, and respect for the communities affected.

Takeaways

The biggest takeaway is learning how to listen first, ask better questions, and adapt to different perspectives without assuming my own context is universal. That mindset shows up in teamwork and leadership, and it also improves how I evaluate what trustworthy technology means across different settings.
